For a few weeks, I kept painting green rings. I wasn’t trying to. They just kept appearing.

It happened during a stretch when several people I work with were having breakthroughs almost on top of one another. They had been circling the same questions for awhile. And then, suddenly, they could see beyond them. Something that had seemed out of reach didn’t anymore.

I didn’t realize any of that was showing up in the paintings until I had made several of them.

Reach came from that period.

I love that the forms seem to be extending beyond where they began. They don’t quite connect. They don’t quite arrive. There is still distance to cover.

Maybe that’s the part I like most.
