Behind You

Have you ever had someone believe in you with such certainty that, for a little while, you could borrow some of it?
This painting came from a period when I kept finding myself in that kind of moment with different people. I knew they were ready before they did. They were beginning to move toward something bigger, but there was still some hesitation. I didn’t need to push. I just needed to stand firm in what I already knew to be true.
That’s what I see in these two forms. The one on the left is upright and resolute. The other leans back toward it even as it reaches forward.
There’s something powerful about knowing someone is behind you. Someone who isn’t wavering. Sometimes that certainty is enough to help you reach a little farther than you would on your own.
